The ISKCON Temple is located at 3C Albert Road, in the center of the city, near the junction of Camac Street and Acharya J C Bose Road. The devotees are enthusiastic to help guests. They devotees are enthusiastic to help guests. They have recently made some nice guest rooms in a new building behind the temple, but guests must follow ashram rules. There is an excellent bakery there.

Every year in June/July there is a Ratha-yatra (chariot) festival organized by the temple. It is said that well over a million people attend this interesting event.

There is a bus to Mayapur that leaves almost every day from the temple at 6 am and returns to Calcutta at 8 pm. It is a good idea to reserve the bus a day in advance. The bus is a very good way to go to Mayapur. The bus also stops at Gariahat, then Prachi Cinema, Capital Electronics (Ultadanga), and Airport Hotel to pick up passengers.

Kali Temple

This interesting temple is dedicated to Kali (kali means 'the black'), the patron goddess of Calcutta. She has blood dripping from her tongue, and she wears a garland of skulls. This temple is said to be where Sati's toe fell after her body was cut into 51 pieces by Lord Vishnu, when she was being carried by Lord Siva. The present temple here was built in 1809. It is said that they used to sacrifice humans at this temple. Now they have daily sacrifices of goats. Foreigners are allowed limited access in this temple.
