Where To Stay - Lower
Pilgrims can stay at the monasteries. Most of the rooms are as basic as they come. At the Bhutanese monastery you can get a room with common bath. The Tibetan monastery is more basic.

The Burmese monastery is very spartan, but popular. You have to follow the rules of the monastery, such as no smoking.

The Hotel Amar has good valued rooms, some with bath. This is good place to stay for the budget traveler, if you prefer not to stay in a monastery.

The Hotel Buddha Vihar has only dormitory beds. Next door, the Hotel Siddharth Vihar has rooms with bath. Both these places are government tourist bungalows. The Sri Lanka Guest House is run by the Mahabodhi Society and is a nice place, but often full.

Where To Stay - High
The Hotel Shanti Buddha near the Thai Temple, has rooms with A/ C. The ITDC Hotel Bodhgaya Ashok has comfortable rooms with A/C. It may be possible to get a discount here during the off-season from April to September.
