Train
Thrissur, 29 km away, is where the nearest long-distance railway station is located. If you are coming south from Mangalore, you can get off the train at Kuttipuram, 52 km north of Guruvayur, instead of going to Thrissur. From there you can get a bus. There are a few local trains between Thrissur and Guruvayur, but the bus is much more convenient.
There is one direct long distant train to and from Trivandrum from Guruvayur. The Guruvayur-Nagercoil Exp goes to Nagercoil via Trivandrum.
Bus
About five buses go each hour to and from Thrissur (1 hr, 29 km). You can get the bus to Guruvayur from Thrissur by the train station and at many other locations in the city. The morning bus from Mysore (7 hr) stops at Guruvayur on the way to Thrissur. As Guruvayur is a very important pilgrimage site, the bus station can be hectic.
