Air There is a daily flight to Delhi via Agra that takes one and a half hours. There is a flight that goes to Varanasi and then continues on to Kathmandu. There are daily flights to Bombay and Calcutta. Flying is the best way to get to Khajuraho, because there is no nearby train station. The Indian Airlines office is at the Temple Hotel on Airport Rd. You can also book flights at the airport.
Rail The closest stations are Jhansi (176 km), if you are taking a train from Agra or Delhi; Satna (117 km), if you are coming from Allahabad, Varanasi, Calcutta or Bombay; and Mahoba (51 km) if you are coming from Varanasi. It is better to get a train from Satna, because from Mahoba there are only a few slow trains daily with a small quota.
From Delhi the Shatabdi Express is the best train to Jhansi. It leaves Delhi arrives in Agra and Jhansi There is a deluxe bus that meets the train and takes about five hours to get from Jhansi to Khajuraho. The Shatabdi Express departs from Jhansi to Delhi. sDuring the day there are also other much slower trains that go from Jhansi to Delhi.
There is no direct train connection to Varanasi. The closest train station to Khajuraho are Satna (117 km east) or Mahoba (51 km). From Satna you can get an express bus (4 hr) or taxi to Khajuraho. From Satna there are trains to Bombay, Gorakhpur, Calcutta, and Varanasi.
If you are leaving Khajuraho for Varanasi (415 km northeast), you can take a us to Mahoba (3 hr) and get the train to Varanasi. To get here from Jaipur you have to change trains at Agra and take another train to Jhansi.
Bus There is a bus from Agra (12 hr) and about 6 buses daily from Jhansi. There is luxury bus that meets the Shatabdi Express at the Jhansi Railway Station. A luxury A/C bus to Jhansi departs from to meet the Shatabdi Express going to Agra and Delhi. There are other cheaper and slower buses to Jhansi during the day. There are only uncomfortable local buses for the 10 to 12 hour ride to Varanasi or Allahabad.
Taxi A taxi from Jhansi to Khajuraho takes about four hours.
