Air
There is an airport in Pondicherry, but at the present time there are no flights there.
Train
The closet railway junction is Villupuram (38 km), which is on the main Madras-Madurai line. Many express trains run in both directions. From Pondicherry you can get one of two local trains, which take about two hours, or a bus to Villupuram.
Bus
There are two bus stations. The Thiruvalluvar (TTC) bus station is on Maraimalai Adigal Salai, an extension of Lal Bahadur St, at the junction with Anna Salai. It has an easy place to deal with. From here there are many buses to Madras and Chidambaram. There are also regular buses to Bangalore, Madurai and Tiruvannamalai.
The hectic state bus stand, about half a km away, has buses to Kanchipuram, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mamallapuram, Kanchipuram, Tiruchirappalli, Vellore, Bangalore, and Madras.
