Air The Indian Airlines office is at the Hotel Vishnupriya, opposite Central Bus Stand. The airport is 15 km from the city center. East West Airlines has four flights a week to Hyderabad and other flights to and from Madras.
Train There are two express train going to Madras-the Saptagiri Ex (3½ hr) and the Tiupati- Madras Mail (3¼ hr). The Saptagiri Express departs from Madras arrives 3½ hours later. The Madras-Tirupati Mail (3 hr) departs from Madras.
As Tirupati is a popular pilgrimage place, you can find express trains that go to many locations in India, especially in the South. To get to Bombay you first take the Saptagiri Express to Madras (wait 45 minutes) and then take the Madras-Bombay Exp (30½). The total travel time is 35 hours. The Tirupati-Mysore Exp takes 12 hours to reach Mysore. The daily Rayalaseema Express goes to Hyderabad (16½ hrs, daily). The Tirupati-Puri Express goes to Puri (22½ hr) via Vijayawada (11 hr) and Visakhipatnam. There are two other trains daily to Vijayawada. There is one train a day to Madurai (19 hr) and Tiruchirappalli, and two trains daily to Chidambaram. The Tirupati-Madurai Exp goes to Madural (I 9hr) via Tiruchirappalli (14 hr), Thanjavur (12 hr), and Chidambaram (9½ hr). The Cochin-Varanasi Exp goes to Varanasi (38 hr) via Allahabad (35 hr).
Bus The APSRTC Central bus station is about 2 km from the railway station on the same road. There are express buses (route No 802) from the Thiruvalluvar Bus Station in Madras (4 hr). The express buses can be booked in advance. There are many other local buses, which can take a long time. The train from Madras is much more comfortable. There are daily tour buses from Madras that go and come in the same day.
You can take direct buses to Hyderbad, Trichirappalli via Vellor, Madurai, Vijaywada, and Bangalore. It is better to take a train to Hyderabad.
There are some direct buses to Kanchipuram. There are also regular buses that go to a small town by Tirupati, from where you cahnge to another bus to Kanchipuram.
