EKADASI Names & Significance

Ekadashi falls twice in a month on the 11th day of Krishna Paksh and Shukla Paksh. Suklapaksha is from New Moon to Full Moon.
Krishnapaksha is from Full moon to New Moon.

Shri Vishnu honoured ' Ekadashi Tithi" with a place amongst Devis to be known as 'Ekadashi Devi" Ekashadi is also known as ' Haripriya' one who is very dear to Hari (Shri Vishnu) It is said that one should fast on this day and follow 'Brahmacharaya' vrata. One
should take phalaahaar once or three times a day as convenient. One can either have just milk or milk and fruits.

Cereals/anaaj should not be taken on this day. Rice should be avoided on this Ekadashi. If an individual cannot observe this fast on all the Ekashadi's then it is very auspicious to observe a fast on 'Nirjala Ekadashi' which falls in the Shukla Paksh in the month of Jyeshta ( June) Many people observe the Ekadashi fast for a period of One year for the departed souls of loved ones as it is suppose to bring peace for them. If one keeps this fast for a long period of time you can do an 'Udyaapan' after consulting a priest.

Kaamika	Krishna Paksh	Shravan/ Saavan	July//August	Destroyer of sins. Sacred Tulsi leaves and manjari flowers are offered to Lord Vishnu.
Putrada	Shukla Paksh	Shravan/ Saavan	July//August	This fast is undertaken mostly by childless couples as it is observed for begetting a child.
Aja	Krishna Paksh	Bhadrapada/ Bhadon	August/ September	Legend says that the sons of King Harishchand came alive due to the Shakti of this vraat.
Jaya	Shukla Paksh	Bhadrapada/ Bhadon	August/ September	If this fast is observed with a lot of devotion and sincerity it rains.
Indira	Krishna Paksh	Ashwin/ Asoj	September/October	It is said that the soul of those who observe this fast goes to Vaikunth, the abode of the Lord.
Papankusha	Shukla Paksh	Ashwin/ Asoj	September/October	It is said that several generations of a family benefit when one person in the family observes this fast.
Rama	Krishna Paksh	Kartik	October/ November	The effect of this vraat is very powerful and it is said that the person keeping this fast is very likely to gain a seat of power and immense fame.
Probodhini / Haripriya	Shukla Paksh	Kartik	October/ November	This ekadashi is very important as people do not need to consult any horoscope or priest if one is to perform a Graha Pravesh, Muhurat or even a wedding. This day is also called “Anbhuj Muhurat” This Eakadashi is also the destroyer of all sins.
Utpanna	Krishna Paksh	Margashirsh	December	A fast observed on this day is said to bear fruits in the form of wealth and children. It relieves one of all miseries.
Mokshada	Shukla Paksh	Margashirsh	December	This fast when observed is said to be the giver of ‘Moksha’ It is important to read the “Bhagwat Gita” on this Ekadashi
