Against Him Who Thwarts Holy Work

Heaven and earth and the vast atmosphere, the goddess of the field, and the wonderous wide-striding Vishnu, and moreover, the wind-guarded vast atmosphere, let these here be inflamed when I am inflamed!

Hear this, O ye revered gods! Let Bhardwaja recite praise for me; let him who would injure us, be bound in the fetters and be plunged in misfortune.

For An Infant's Long Life

O Agni, thou art giver of life, ghee smeared and ghee backed art thou. O Agni, having enjoyed the sweet pleasant ghee of the cow, do thou protect this boy, as a father does his son.

Put ye, him in splendid garments, nourish him to die in old age, make his life long. Brihaspati, the guardian of the learned, has furnished this garment to Soma for wearing.

Thou has put on this garment for thy joy and has become protector of the people against violence. My thou live a hundred autumns, and do thou gather about thee the abundant wealth.

Come, step upon the stone, may the body become strong like this stone, may all the Gods lengthen thy life-span to a hundred autumns.

Hither let the cattle come that strayed away, whose companionship Vayu enjoyed and whose structure of form Tavastar knows, in this stall let Savitar hold them in place.

Let to this stable cattle flow together, let Brihaspati skillfully lead them hither. Sinivate shall lead hither their Van. Do thou, O Anumati hold them in the stall when they have arrived.

May together the cattle flow, together flow the horses, together men. May the increase in grain flow together. I offer an oblation that causes to flow together!

I pour together the milk of kine, I pour together strength and sap with clarified butter. Poured together are our heroes, constant shall be the with me, their owner!

Against Opponents in Disputation

May my rival not win the debate. Mighty and overpowering art thou, O plant. Overcome the debate of those who debate against us, render them sapless, O plant!

For Long Life of A Child

For thee alone, O old age, let this child grow, let not the other hundred deaths harm him. May Mitra, like a provident mother in her lap a son protect him from misfortunes.

May Mitra or helping Varuna in harmony make him one that dies in old age, so may Agni, the hotar-priest, who knows the ways, bespeaks all the births of the gods.

Agni, thou art lord of all the animals of the earth, those that are born, and also that are to be born. Let not in and out breathings leave this one, let not either friends of enemies slay him!

Let father Heaven and mother Earth, in harmony, make thee on that dies in old age, that thou mayest live in the lap of Aditi, a hundred winters guarded by breath and expiration.

This dear child, lead thou Agni to life and vigour, O Varuna, and king Mitra. As a mother grant him refuge, all ye gods that he may attain old age.
