For sacrificial act, an exalted priest has been appointed, and Agni, the taker of oblations to the higher realms, has been kindled. Through Yajna, the oblations offered, soar high to the firmament. The priest has been seated in the centre of the radiant hall and the sacred grass spread for the Gods to rest. May Night and Dawn, praised come hither, through different in forms but smiling. May Varuna and Mitra and Indra in association with the Maruts serve and gladden us. I crave the favour of Agni and Varuna, the two chiefs of heavens and propitiate them with seven kinds of oblations. They hold truth and ever admire the truth. They always observe their vows and uphold the law.

O lord of the forest, annointed with the sacred oil in sacrifice by the priests, grant us wealth when you stand upright or when you repose on another Earth’s bosom. Set up to the East of the sacred fire, accept our prayer, never decaying. Driving away far from us poverty and want, hold yourself high to give us prosperity. Lord of the forest, lift yourself up on the highest spot of the earth, and give glory and splendour to one who brings a sacrifice, O fixed and measured one! Well clad and adorned, he comes, the youthful, and yet is fairer by far when sprung to new life. The sages, whose meditative mind is ever turned godwords rear him. Born anew, he is raised up on a day most fair, waxing great in wisdom in the assembly of men. Wise and skilful men consecrate him with hymns, approaching the Gods, the singers chant aloud. O Lord of the forest, whom fashioned, be gracious to give us riches along with children, O divine post of sacrifice.

May ye posts, filled and fixed in the ground, to which the sacrificial ladles have been raised, which mark the boundaries of the field, bring blessings from Gods full of precious things. The Gods, Adityas, Rudras, Vasus leading Earth and Heaven and earth’s atmosphere shall bless our rites and raise the banner of our sacrifice high in the sky. Like swan that fly in a long drawn out line, the posts have come to us in various shining colours. Raised high by the learned in the East, they go forth as Gods to Gods’ dwelling places. These posts, fixed in the ground and embellished with circles, appear to sight like horns of horned creatures. Raised by the priests in invocation, may these help us with their aids in the battle. O Lord of the forest, whom the axe has whetted, set in our midst, put forth a hundred branches, and so may we rise with a thousand branches.

O resplendent Agni, we the mortals, meditate upon and communicate with you, whom the sages kindle in sacrifice. You are Lord of men and other beings and giver of happiness. They worship you in their sacred rites as an accomplisher of sacrifice and all in all. Thou shine forth in thine on dwelling as upholder of the Law. One, who worships you with fuel acquires knowledge of all the things. He attains strength and prospers from all sides. He, loftly like a banner, has come with Gods, accompanied by seven priests, to him who offers oblations and gifts. To Agni utter lofty speech and offer your best gifts, who purifies all and inspires hymns. May our hymns refurbish Agni, worthy of our praise, growing mighty in strength and spectacular as he multiplies. Thou, Agni, the best Priest, most venerable, bring the Gods here to the holy men. You are a giver of delight and your radiance drives away our foemen afar. O Purifier, shine on us good wealth and glory. Be ever nigh to those who laud you for their well-being. O ever awake and watchful, versed in holy hymns, the sages kindle thee, oblation-bearer, full of vigour, divine and deathless.
