Be kind, O Agni, when we approach you, good as a friend to friend, or like parents to their child. Thou burn those up who are great oppressors among men, consume all the wicked who scheme against us. Burn up the unfriendly neighbour, and foe-man’s curses issuing forth from impious lips. Burn, thou all-seeing, the foolish, surround your self with why eternal lofty flames. This fuel and sacred oil, O Agni, I eagerly present for strength and victory. With this sacred hymn, as far as I have powers, worshipping, I crave a hundred blessings. Thou son of Strength, grant with thy warmth, when worshipped and praised, great vitality and power to those who toil in your service. We have anointed the body. O Liberal Lord, grant us great riches, as you possess, when enkindled, with your arms far extended, send it to the dwelling of your happy singer.

O Agni, repel hostile forces, and driver away our foemen. O insuperable, surpassing all the foes, give riches to the worshippers. O immortal God, lit up with libation, who calls Gods to banquet, be pleased and come to our sacrifice. Thou Son of Strength, resplendent, ever vigilant, invoked by men, come and sit here on this sacred grass. We sing songs of praise to exalt Agni and all other Gods, and all those enlightened men who attend the wholly rites. Agni, kindly grant your favours and wealth in heroes and prosperity to all your devotees. Make us prosperous in noble and righteous progeny.

O all-knowing Agni, accept this our oblation of Purodesha (a cake with butter) at morning session of the sacrifice, rich in hymns. O Radiant, this cake with butter has been prepared and dressed for you, accept it, O ever youthful God! O Agni, accept this well cooked good food prepared in day time, and lovingly offered, O Son of Strength. Please accept this afternoon food-offering of the sacrifice, O wise and learned Agni. The sages in sacrifices never diminish the offerings due to you, the most might. O mighty son of Strength, accept this Purodasha in this third course of libation and enjoy. Bear this offering to the Gods, thou ever alert watchful immortal God. Thou knower of all objects, waxing strong, accept this oblation and well cooked cake, that has been prepared today.

Those who desire you offer Soma. They shed Soma and offer oblations. They bear patiently the calumny and violence of others. Protect them, Indra, as there is none wiser than you. O Lord of the fine steeds, come hither for even the remotest regions are not distant for thee. These libations are meant for the steadfast and strong. The stones are laid ready and the fire is kindled. Where are now those your heroic powers with which thou alleviated sufferings and did marvellous deeds? Fair visaged art thou, O Indra, performer of great tasks, destroyer of enemies when roused to fight, lord of righteous fellow-travellers. Thou alone movest forth to overthrow the unshakable, and goest forth to destroy Vritra. For the observer of your vows, the heaven and earth, stand firmly like a mountain. O Indra, much invoked, you speak the truth in the safety of your glories, thou Demon and separate. They prop us the mighty Gods, but do not reel under their weight. The One is the lord of all things, fixed or moving, waking or flying this multiform creation. From afar I see the Ancient one, our mighty Father from of old and ponder over our kinship. By singing the laud of whom the Gods, established on their own spacious pathways, go about their jobs.
