O Guardians of the Law, the law of the Truth is yours in the highest heaven where you mount your car. O Mitra and Varuna, he whom you favour here, is the Lord of peace, for him pour forth the rain in sweetness from heaven. Emperors rule over this world of our, the seers of the realms of light. We pray you for rain, for felicious wealth, and immortality. The Maruts, the thunderer, roam abroad through heaven and on the earth.

Ye destroyer of the foe, Varuna and Mitra, we call you by this song, your arms encompass the realm of power as cast around pens of herds. Stretch out your arms with favour to this man who sings to you the praise, for through all the world is sung forth your friendliness. May I go by thy path of Mitra, the friend, that I may attain the goal of my journey. So men go protected under the charge of this beloved Friend in whom there is no harm. O Mitra and Varuna, may I with my song, acquire that which you possess. That shall cause envy in the homes of the masters of wealth and those who praise you. O Mitra, come unto us with thy riches, and Varuna to our assembly so that the wealthy in their homes and your friends may thrive well in increase of riches. With those, among whom you rank supreme, you twain bring us the strength, and the vastness for the winning of our wealth, bliss and prosperity. At breaking of the Dawn when the Dawn when the sunrays flash, O lords of sacrifice, in the force of the Gods come with speed on your trampling steeds to my pressed out Soma juice.

The man who has awakened to the knowledge, becomes perfect. Let him speak for us to the Gods. Varuna and Mitra take delight in the speech of such a man. They are the most glorious Kings, their fame is most wide-spread. They are the lords of all the beings, they increase the Truth in us, for the truth is theirs. I call on them, the first and foremost, the twain together, for help, we who travel on fine steeds. They perfect in knowledge, give us wealth. Even out of misery Mitra wins for us a dwelling for living at ease, for him who worships, he has the grace of the hero ever fighting in the vain. May we abide in Mitra’s protection which extends to utmost distance, so that we are free from harm and sin, guarded by Varuna as his sons. O Mitra, you set the men travelling on and lead them. Neglect ye not the rich, our lords and our seers of the truth. Be our protector while you enjoy the milk.

In truth, ye Gods possess the supreme sway. O Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, you possess it most abundantly. When you sit in your dwelling of golden light, O Varuna, O Mitra, upholders of mankind, foe-slayers, reach them the bliss. All-knowing and universal are you, O Varuna and Mitra and Aryaman. You keep firm to the Law and follow it and guard mortal man from his enemy. They are true, they up-hold the Truth and hold it in all the beings, perfect leaders in journey, perfect in delivering from distress, and perfect in giving bounteous gifts, which of you, Varuna or Mitra is not affirmed and magnified by us? Wholly our thought turns to you, the travellers thought turn to you.

Sing ye to Varuna and Mitra with a hymn that enlightens, they, the mighty Lords, theirs is the Law. All-powerful are they, yea, both of them, Mitra and Varuna, Gods magnified among the Gods. Therefore, put forth strength for our gaining riches, both celestial and earthy, for great is your sway among the Gods. By sticking to the Law with Law, you have attained great force, O Gods, ye grow and come not to hurt. With rain-charged skies, and streaming floods, masters of the strength, you take possession of your lofty seat.

Three realms of light ye twain uphold, O Varuna, three heavens, three mid-regions. O Mitra ye waxing strong guard the warrior in the eternal laws of your working. Ye Varuna and Mitra have fostering cows yielding streams of honeyed milk. Your floods pour forth sweet rains. There stand the three luminous Bulls, who cast their seeds into the three worlds. I call on boundless Aditi at dawn, in the mid day and at the sunset I call on her. I desire of Mitra and Varuna the safety, riches and progeny in rest and movement. Ye who uphold the luminous regions of the mid-world and the bright sphere, O divine Adityas, O Mitra and Varuna, the immortal Gods never impair your laws, firm for ever.

Far and wide extends your grace, O Gods, ye Varuna and Mitra. May I have perfect wisdom. You are they who grant full security and sustenance, may we be they, O Rudra. Protect us, ye with your perfect deliverance. May we ourselves destroy the destroyers. O wonderous Gods, may be never suffer the control of any, nor our sons nor our progeny. O foe-slayers, come with your might, O Varuna, O Mitra, to this our delightful sacrifice. O Varuna and Mitra, ye sages govern every man Fulfil and nourish our prayers. Come, O Varuna and Mitra to our sacrifice, that of the charitable giver to drink of this Soma juice.
