For Splendour

What splendour is in a lion, in a tiger, and what is in and adder, in fire, in Brahman, the sun, may that blessed goddess that gave birth to Indra now come to us along with splendour!

What splendour is in an elephant, in a leopard, in gold, in the waters, in kine, and in man, may that blessed goddess that gave birth to Indra now come to us along with splendour!

What splendour is there in a chariot, in dice, in a bull's strength, in wind, in rain and in thunder, may that blessed goddess that gave birth to Indra now come to us along with splendour!

What splendour resides in a noble, in a drum, in an arrow's flight, in a man's shout, in a horse's strength, may that blessed goddess that gave birth to Indra now come to us along with splendour.

A Prayer for Glory

My oblation that increases glory, inspired by Indra, of thousandfold strength, well offered, prepared with strength will prosper.

May it cause me, who offers this oblation to behold the sunlight for long and a rise to royal power.

We honour glorious Indra, rich in glory with glory giving oblations. Do thou O oblations, inspired by Indra bestow upon us royalty. May we be glorious with this thy favour. Glorious was Indra born, glorious was Agni, glorious was Soma, glorious of all beings am I most glorious.

For Fearlessness

O ye Heaven and Earth, breathe on us fearlessness. May Soma, Savitar render us fearless. May the limitless atmosphere set us in fearlessness. May the oblation of the seven seers set us in fearlessness!

From the four directions, the North and the South, the East and the West let Savitar direct on this village sustenance, welfare, and comfort. May Indra grant us freedom from foes, fearlessness, deflecting the fury of kings.

O Indra, grant us freedom from our foes, freedom below and above, freedom behind and before.

For Atonment of the Sin

Go far away, O sin of the mind, why do you utter things improper? Go from here, I do not desire you. Go and live in the trees and forests. My mind shall be with our kine and homes.

If any wrong has been done by us, O Agni, waking or sleeping, by cursing or ill-will, put it far away from us, all that is evil and disagreeable deeds!

If we have done any thing wrong, O Indra and Brahmnaspati, let Angiras, the wise, protect us from distress and difficulty!

Exorcism of Evil Dreams

You, who are neither alive nor dead, the immortal child of the gods are you.

O sleep, Varunani is your mother, Yama your sire, Araru are you by name!

O sleep, we know thy birth, you are the child of the divine sisters, the instrument of Yama. You are termination, you are death. Do we know you, O sleep. Do you preserve us against evil dreams!

As men pay off a sixteenth, an eighth, or the entire debt, so do we send forth every evil dream from us upon him who hates us.

For Winning a Husband

Here comes Aryaman, with his locks disheveled in front, seeking a husband for this spinster, and a wife for him without one.

This spinster, O Aryaman, has grown weary of going to the weddings of other maids. May now, O Aryaman, the other women come to her wedding without fail!

Dhatar, the creator sustains this earth, he sustains the heavens and the sun. Let Dhatar provide this spinster with a husband after her own desire!

Against Discord

May you agree, be united, may your minds be in harmony, just as the gods of yore sat in harmony to their position of oblation.

May their counsel be same, same their gathering, their aim the same, same their thoughts. The same oblation do I offer for you, may you both enter together into the same thought!

What varied food I consume often times, and my gold, my horse, and also mine kine, goats and sheep, whatever I receive as a gift, may Agni, the hotar-priest, render that into propitious gift!

Whatever gift do I receive in sacrifice, out of sacrifice, granted by the Fathers, granted by men, which excites my mind with joy, may Agni, the hotar-priest, render that into a propitious gift!

The food that, O gods, I improperly eat, and promise intending to give it, or not to give it to the Brahmans, may that by the greatness of great Agni (Vaishwanara) be propitious and honeyed for me !

Against Discord

Let your bodies be united together, may your minds and your aims be united together. Brahmanaspati has brought you together, Bhaga has brought you together.

Harmony of the mind for you, also harmony of the heart, besides with the aid of Bhaga's exertion, do I render you in harmony.

As the Adityas are united with the Vasus, as the severe Rudras are united with the Maruts, without any grudge, so, O three-named on (Agni), without any grudge, do thou render these people of one mind!
