For Health and Long Life

When thou, O Brihaspati, did liberate us from Yama's yonder world existence, and from hostile scheme, then did the Ashvins, the physicians of the gods sweep away death from us, O Agni.

O in and out-breathings, go together with the body, do not desert it, may these by thy allies here. Live and prosper a hundred autumns. May Agni be the best shepherd and overseer!

The vital breath that has been dissipated afar, thy in and out-breathings, may they come once again. Agni has taken them up from the lap of Nirriti, and them I again implant into thyself!

Let this breath leave not this man, let not out-breath desert him and depart. I consign him to the Seven Seers, may they lead him into happy old age!

Enter ye in-breathing and out-breathing, like two oxen into a stall. Let this man here prosper in the treasure of old age unharmed!

We do drive into thee thy life-breath. I do drive not consumption from thee. May this divine Agni give us life from every side!

Ascending to the highest firmament, out of darkness to the Sun, the god of gods, we have attained the highest light.

To Indra and Varuna

O Indra and Varuna, true to law, Soma-drinker, drink this pressed Soma, the giver of rapturous joy. Let your chariot come to the feast of the gods, to sacrifice, as it were home so that you may drink.

O Indra and Varuna, drink to your fill, ye bulls, of this most sweet and rich Soma. This juice is poured out that ye may quaff. Be seated here on this sacred grass and revel.

Against Ominous Black Bird

What this black bird flying out towards me has dropped here, let the waters protect me from all that misfortune, from all that distress!

What this black bird has brushed here with thy mouth, O Nirriti, may Agni, the lord of the house, release me from this sin!

A Prayer for Joy

May the wind blow us joy, may the sun shine down joy upon us, may the days pass with joy, may the night be full of joy, may the dawn shine forth joy for us!

For Curing Apakit Sores

Ye apakits shed easily from that which sheds easily, more non-existing than that which do not exist at all. Ye are more sapless than the sehu, more dissolving than the salt.

The apakits that are on the neck, likewise those which are upon the shoulders, the ones which are upon the perineum, may they fall off themselves!

To the Maruts

O Maruts, ye consuming gods, here is offering, enjoy this ye Maruts, to aid us, O foe-slayers!

Maruts, the man who would slay us before we can think, the very inimical, let that man be tangled in the fetters of hate, smite him down with your most flaming weapon!

May the Maruts of the year, well-singing, wide-dwelling, gracious and well-attended, release us from the bonds of sin, they the much-heating, jovial and revealing ones!

To Varuna

O king Varuna, thy golden dwelling is built in the waters, May the king that maintains the laws release us from all the bonds!

Loosen us from the uppermost fetters, O Varuna, loosen down the lowest ones, loosen the middlemost ones, so, that, O Aditya, we may live in freedom, freed from guilt in thy realm!

Release us, O Varuna, from all fetters, that are the uppermost, the lowest, and those that are imposed by Varuna. Drive away from us evil-dreaming and distress, then we may go to the world of the pious ones!

Against Bad Luck

Fly forth from here, O evil sign, be gone from here, fly forth to yonder places. With a metal hook we fasten thee to him who hates us!

This unauspicious flying sign which has alighted upon me as a creeper upon a tree, that mayest thou put away elsewhere from here, O golden-handed Savitar, granting wealth to us!

A hundred and one are the signs that are born with the body of the mortal man, the worst of these we send forth away from here, the auspicious ones do thou Jatavedas, hold fast on us!

These signs here I have separated, like cows scatted on a barren. Let the auspicious signs stay, the foul ones I have made to vanish.
