O Indra, thou art called by men in the east, and in the west, in the north and in the south. Thou art worshipped like a lord by all men, living beings and chiefly by Seers. O God, though thou shinest alike on beautiful and ugly, and on all affluent man, yet the seers and learned men of the Vedas, seeking after thee, attain unto thee with songs of praise. Just as a thirsty bull goes to a pool of water, so do thou come here quickly at evening and morning and with the seers enjoy divine juice to thy fill. May these drops gladden thee, God Indra that he who sheds the juice may acquire bounty. Thou stole the juice when pressed out and enjoyed its pleasure and waxed mightly strong. With that strength he won more strength and with energy he crushed the demons. O mighty Indra, ever youthful, all thy enemies who slought he won more strength and with energy he crushed the demons. O mighty Indra, ever youthful, all thy enemies who slought battle with you, bent down before you like the trees. The man who has won thy favour roams about as if surrounded by a thousand warriors. He begets heroic sons serving you well with prayers. In the friendship of almighty Indra, we have no fear nor feel any exhaustion. May we enjoy bliss and joy through thy favour and glorify your mighty deeds, O hero! On his left side he hath reclined himself. The offered oblations offend him not. The Soma juice blended with honey of the bee is ready. Quickly come here, hasten and drink the juice. O Indra, when thy friend grows strong in might, fair of from, and rich in chariots, horses and cows, he then with his rich qualities becomes fit to join the company of learned men. Come O Indra, like a thirsty stage to our sacrifice and drink the juice to thy fill. Pouring it down day after day, O Maghavan, thou grows surpassing strong in might. O Adhvarus, let the Soma juice flow because Indra longs to drink thereof. He hath yoked his mighty Steeds, the Virtra-slayer hath come nigh.

Like Parjanya rich in rain, Indra is great in his might. He has been glorified with hymns sung by the seers. When the learned men magnify Indra, they offer him gifts and sing hymns of praise of sacrifice. When the learned singers of praise pronounce Indra as an instrument of completing the sacrifice, they declare all other instruments as useless. Before Indra’s displeasure all the men and beings bend down as rivers bow down themselves before the ocean. Indra’s strength shone brilliantly when he brought together the heaven and earth like a skin. He served mighty Vritra’s head with his powerful knotted thunderbolt.

Verily I have obtained deep knowledge from my father, and therefore, have become illustrious like the Sun. After the ancient manner, I, like a seer adorn my songs, whereby Indra grains strength. O Indra, only the godless do not praise thee. The Sages praise thee. Wax strong indeed when lauded by me! When Indra thundered and rent the Vritra to pieces limb and by limb, he sent the waters to the sea. Indra of hero’s strength, hurled his mighty bolt on the Demons, he, the regions of the earth can contain Indra, the mighty Thunderer!

Laud him, the Lord of Light, the Son of Strength, the messenger who bears oblations to Gods. Agni the lustrous God, the liberal giver, is wise and worthy of adoration through songs. He is the Lord of sacred food blent with Soma, and has first claim to oblation. We have chosen thee, the most skilled in sacrifice among the Gods, as our Hotar-priest, immortal, wise accomplisher of ever holy rite. May Agni, the Water’s son, the ever shining and blessed, whose light is most excellent, win favour for us through sacrifice to Mitra, Varuna and waters in heaven.
