(1)
Mudra (2) Mathsyam (3) Mamsam (4) Madhyam (5) Maithunam. The real esoteric
significance of these five words is as follows:
(1) Mudra: By Mudra is meant
either Sambavi Mudra or Kesari Mudra. Sambavi Mudra is performed according
to the yoga sasthra in the following manner:
"Antarlakshyam Brahrdrishti
Nimishonmesha varjitha
Eshamsa sambavi Mudra
Sarvathanthrashu gopyatha".
The meaning of the above verse is that the
sadhaka or worshipper should aim inwards with up turned eyes in a steady
gaze obviously concentrating on the mind centre in the neural heart. This
discipline is the underlying principle of all Thanthra forms of meditation.
Kesari Mudra is performed in the following
manner according to Goraknath:
"Kapala kuhare jehwa
Pravishta viparithaga
Bruvoranthar gatha drishti
Mudra bavathi Kesari."
which means that the sadhaka or trainee
should perform this mudra or discipline by turning the tongue over backwards
into the hollow above the throat fixing his gaze between the eye brows.
