GANESHA AND HIS MOUNT

Agni is the energising factor of life which Prometheus got from Olympus for the use of man even according to Greek mythology. When the energising factor leaves, the body becomes cold and dead. It appears from masonic legends and other sources that religious consecration or baptism among the ancient communities was by fire. Even the name of free mason is derived from the old name of pyre messon meaning children of fire. The fire walking ceremony prevalent among, the Saiva sect of Hindus and among certain Moslim sects even at the present time is a relic of' this ancient custom signifying the holiness of fire. God gave darsan to Moses in the form of fire and it was again God as Jothir Lingam, a pillar of fire that guided the Israelites during, the night time in their exodus from Egypt. Since Agni, the energising power lies dormant in all forms of existence, it is compared to the golden mouse which lies hidden in its burrow unseen by anybody.

Ganesha with his vehicle now, gets a mystic power which is recognised by both the ritualism of Vedas and the mysticism of Yoga and this makes him a Deity of no mean importance.

We have yet to consider him vis-a-vis Shiva, his reputed parent, the great Lord of Yoga.
