Having said this, Narayana first assumed a miniature form that was only the size of a thumb in stature. He then blew himself up until his form became gigantic and his head disappeared into the clouds. After displaying his powers to Shiva, Narayana suddenly disappeared.

But as a result of what he had witnessed, Shiva was forced to declare that Narayana was the supreme god.

(The aditiyas were the sons of Aditi, kashyapa’s wife, the word aditya is used as a general description for all the gods other than Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. It is also sometimes used in the specific sense of there being twelve adityas, not eleven, as is stated in the Varaha Purana. It was the Rudras which were eleven in number.)
