Brahma was glad at heart to hear my words; he felt a thrill of joy, and tears flowed from his eyes. Then composedly and deliberately he folded his hands and chanted his praises:

“Glory, all glory to you, O Lord of lords, who brings blessing to the faithful, protector of the suppliant! Glory to the benefactor of cows and Brahmans, slayer of demons, the beloved spouse of Lakshmi (daughter of the ocean)! O guardian of gods and earth, mysterious are your acts; their secret is known to none. Let him who is benevolent by nature and compassionate to the poor be gracious unto us!

Glory, all glory to the imperishable Lord Mukunda (the bestower of salvation and love), who resides in all hearts, is supreme bliss personified, omnipresent, unknowable, transcending sense, whose acts are most holy and who is beyond the veil of Maya (illusion)! Glory to him who is truth, consciousness and bliss combined, who is most lovingly meditated upon day and night by multitudes of sages, all free from ignorance, who sing your praises in a passionless ecstasy of love!

May the slayer of sin take thought on us,-he who brought to birth the threefold creation (viz., that which is dominated by sattva, rajas and tamas or gods, men and demons) with none to assist him; we know neither devotion nor way of worship. He who dispels the terrors of existence, delights the souls of sages and brings all troubles to an end, we gods betake ourselves to him in thought, word and deed, abandoning our wonted cleverness.

May the Lord, whom Sarasvati, scripture, Shesha and all the seers cannot comprehend, he who loves the lowly-so declare the Vedas-have mercy upon us! The sages, Siddhas (adepts) and all gods, grievously stricken with fear, bow at the lotus feet of the Lord who serves as Mount Mandara for churning the sea of birth and death, who is charming in every way, a shrine of virtues, an embodiment of bliss!

Perceiving that the gods and Earth were terror-stricken and hearing their loving entreaties, a solemn voice came from heaven which dispelled their doubt and anxiety.

“Fear not, O sages, adepts and high gods! For your sake I will assume the form of a man with every element of my divinity incarnate in the glorious Solar race.
