If the grace of Shiva and Parvati be at all truly with me, even in dream, then all the influence I claim for my verses, composed in the vulgar tongue, shall come true.

I reverence the very holy city of Ayodiya and the river Sarayu that washes away the impurities of the Kaliyuga; and again I do reverence to the inhabitants of that city, who enjoy the affection of the Lord in no small degree.

For he ignored all the sins of those who slandered Sita and, having reassured them, gave them a place in his own realm. Now I do homage to Kausalya, the eastern heaven, whose glory stands diffused throughout the world;

-in her Raghupati became manifest, as the fair moon in the eastern quarter of the sky, to bring joy to the world and to blight the wicked, as frost blights the lotus. I reverence, too, in thought and word and deed king Dasharatha and all his queens, esteeming them as incarnations of merit and fair blessings. Be gracious to me as to a servant of your son. O parents of Rama, the very perfection of glory, you in whose creation even Brahma (the Creator) exalted himself.

I reverence the king of Ayodhya, who had such true love for the feet of Rama that when the Lord of compassion left him, he abandoned his precious body as though it were a worthless straw.

I salute Videna, with all his household, who had the greatest love for Rama’s feet; though he concealed it in the exercise of spiritual and material power, it was revealed as soon as he saw Rama.

First among the brothers I throw myself at the feet of Bharata, whose rule of life and vows cannot be described; his soul was greedy for the lotus feet of Rama, as a bee thirsting for honey; he would not leave his side.
