When night fell, the sage(Vishvamitra) gave the word, and they all offered their evening prayer, and two watches of the beautiful night passed in the telling of ancient tales and histories.

Then the chief of the sages, Vishvamitra, retired to rest, and the two brothers began to rub his feet. Even they, for the touch of whose lotus feet men of dispassion practise all kinds of penance and meditation.

-even they, these two ;brothers, mastered by love, affectionately pressed their guru’s lotus feet. When the sage asked him again and again, the chief of Raghu’s race retired to rest only then.

Lakshmana pressed the Lord’s feet to his heart and rubbed them with emotions of exquisite delight. It was only when the Lord repeatedly said, “Retire now, dear brother,” that he lay down, cherishing his brother’s lotus feet in his bosom.

Towards the close of night, at the sound of cock-cro;w Lakshmana arose. The lord of the universe, the all-wise Rama, also woke before the guru.

After performing all the customary rites of purification, they went to bathe, and having gone through their daily routine of devotions, etc., they bowed their heads before the sage. When the time came, the two brothers took leave of the guru and went out to gather flowers.

As they went they saw the beautiful royal garden, where reigned eternal spring enchanted by its loveliness. It was planted with charming trees of various kinds and overhung with beautiful creepers.
