This holy stream, issuing as it does from the beautiful Manasa lake, uproots in its course all the sins of the Kaliyuga, tiny ones like blades of grass and great ones like mighty trees.

The three kinds of listeners are the townships, villages and cities on either bank; and the congregation of saints is the incomparable Ayodhya, the source of all suspicious blessings.

The beautiful Sarayu, that stream of fair renown, flows on to join the heavenly stream (Ganga), the stream of devotion to Rama. The latter is joined again by the charming stream of the mighty Sone, pure as the martial glory of Rama and his younger brother Lakshmana.

Between the two streams of Sarayu and Sone shines the celestial stream of devotion blended with wisdom and noble dispassion. This triple stream, which scares away the three afflictions referred to above, flows towards the ocean of Rama’s divine self.

With its source in the Manasa lake and united with the celestial river (Ganga), the Sarayu of Rama’s fame will purify the hearts of the faithful who listen to it. The strange episodes related here and there are like the groves and gardens on the river banks.

The guests of the wedding procession of Uma (Paravati) and the great Lord Shiva are like fish, innumerable and of various kinds. The rejoicings and felicitations that attended the advent of Raghumatha are the charm of the eddies and waves.

The childlike sports of the four divine brothers are the numerous lotus flowers of many hues; the stock of merits of King Dasharatha and his consorts and their family are bees and waterfowl.
