When your father comes to summon you, be not stubborn but return home; when the Seven Seers meet you, be assured of the truth of this oracle.”

Parvati rejoiced to hear Brahma’s voice sounding from heaven, and she was thrilled with delight. (Yajnavalkya says to Bharadvaja) I have thus sung the beautiful story of parvati; now hear the glorious acts of Shankara.

From the time that Sati went away and abandoned her body, Shiva’s mind recoiled from everything. He continually repeated the name of Rama and listened to the recitation of Rama’s glories here and there.

Even Shiva, pure Consciousness and Bliss, the abode of joy, ever free from error, arrogance and lust, wandered about on earth with his heart fixed on Hari, the delight of the whole world.

Here he instructed the sages in wisdom, and there he recited the virtues of Rama. Though free from desire and all-wise, the Lord was smitten with the pangs of separation from his devotee (Sati).

In this way a long time passed while his devotion to the feet of Rama ever grew greater. When Rama saw Shiva’s self-discipline and affection and the indelible pledge of devotion in his heart,

-the merciful Lord, who is grateful and gracious, beautiful and full of modesty appeared before Shankara in his great splendour and extolled him in ways more than one, saying, '‘ho else could accomplish such a vow?’
