Whatever creatures existed in the world, moving and unmoved, male or female, overstepped their natural bounds and were completely possessed by lust.

In every heart was a yearning for love; the boughs of trees bent low at the sight of creepers; the overflowing rivers rushed to meet the ocean; lakes and ponds met in union.

When such was the state of inanimate creation, who can relate the doings of conscious beings? Beasts on the land and birds in the air and fish in the water lost all sense of time and became subject to lust.

The whole world was blind and restless with passion. The ruddy geese regarded neither day nor night. Of gods, demons, men, Kinnaras ( a class of demigods) and serpents, evil spirits, fiends, ghosts and vampires.

I make no special mention, for these are eternally slaves to passion. Even adepts and anchorites, great sages and ascetics gave up their austere vows under the influence of Kama.

Even great ascetics and hermits were completely subdued by lust, to say nothing of baser men. Those who looked upon the whole animate and inanimate creation as full of Brahma (God) now saw it as full of Woman. Women perceived the whole world as Man, and men as Woman. For nearly an hour this sportive mystery, created by Love, lasted in the universe.

Nobody could remain self-possessed, for Kamadeva had stolen the hearts of all. They alone could hold their own against him whom Raghunatha protected.
