From there all the gods, including Vishnu and Viranchi (Brahma), went where the gracious Lord Shiva was. They severally praised and won the pleasure of the Lord who bears the moon upon his brow.


Said Shiva, the ocean of compassion, on whose banner is blazoned the bull, ‘Tell me, immortals, what has brought you here?’ To this Brahma replied, ‘Lord, you are the inner controller of all; yet, my master, devotion urges me to make my prayer.


In the hearts of all the immortals, O Shankara, is this one dominating desire; Lord, they long to see with their own eyes your marriage rites performed.


O humbler of Love’s pride, devise some means so that we may feast our eyes on this glad event! O ocean of compassion, you have done well in granting a boon to Rati after burning up Kamadeva.


Lord, it is the nature of the great to punish first and then to show mercy. Parvati has performed an interminable penance; kindly accept her now.’


On hearing Brahma’s entreaty ad remembering the words of the Lord (Rama), Shiva gladly said, ‘So be it!’ The gods thereupon sounded their kettledrums and rained down flowers and cried. ‘Victory, victory to the Lord of heaven!’


Then judging it to be opportune moment, the Seven Seers arrived on the scene. Brahma immediately sent them to the palace of Himavan. First they approached Parvati and spoke to her the following sweet but deceptive words.
