One day as she was returning home with Shiva, she saw Rama, the sun of the lotus race of Raghu. In her infatuation, she did not listen to Shiva’s advice and was beguiled into assuming the form of Sita.


Shankara deserted her because she had offended him by taking the form of Sita. Separated from Shiva, she then visited her father’s sacrifice and burnt herself up in the fire of Yoga (sacrificial fire) there. Now, reborn in your house, she has undergone severe penance to win her lord. Know this and give up your doubts; Girija (your daughter) is for ever Shankara’s beloved spouse.’


On hearing Narada’s words, the sadness of all disappeared, and in a moment the story he had told spread from house to house throughout the city.


Then Maina and Himavan were overjoyed and bowed before Parvati’s feet again and again. All the citizens, men, women and children, young and old, were immensely delighted.


Festive songs began to be sung in the city, and all sorts of golden vases were displayed by all. Dishes of various kinds were prepared in accordance with the rules of culinary science.


Is it ever possible to describe the varieties of dishes prepared in the house where Bhavani the Mother lived? Himachala courteously summoned all the wedding guests, including Vishnu, Brahma and the gods of all classes.


The guests sat in many rows; and expert cooks began to serve the food. Finding the gods dining, batches of women began to jest and banter in pleasant strains.
