At the direction of the sages both Shambhu and Bhavani worshipped Ganapati (Ganesha). Let no one be perplexed on hearing this, remembering that gods have existed from time without beginning.

The great sages had the whole marriage ceremony performed in accordance with Vedic rites. Taking the sacred kusha grass in his hand and holding the bride by her hand, the king of the mountains gave her to Bhava (Shiva), acknowledging her to be his eternal consort.

When the great Lord Shiva took the hand of the bride, all the high gods rejoiced. The principal sages chanted the Vedic verses, and the gods exclaimed, “Glory, glory, glory to Shankara!”

All kinds of music sounded and from the sky fell flowers of all sorts in showers. Thus was accomplished the wedding of Shiva and Parvati, filling all the worlds with joy.

Men-servants and maid-servants, horses and chariots, elephants and cows, dresses and jewels and every sort of gift, and wagon-loads of foodgrains and golden vessels were given as a dowry, which was more than one could describe.

Himachala gave all sorts of gifts as a dowry; the with folded hands he said, ‘I have nothing to give you, Shankara, you have all your desires sated. Having said so, he remained there clasping Shiva’s lotus feet, while Shiva, the ocean of grace, cheered his father-in-law in every possible way. Then Maina with her heart overflowing with love clasped his lotus feet and said,

‘Uma, my lord, is dear to me as life itself; take her as a maid-servant of your house and pardon all her offences; be gracious now and grant me this boon.’
