The fatigue occasioned by this long journey cannot be relieved by millions of devices unless she takes a dip in the lake of Rama’s exploits. Realizing this in their heart, poets and wise men chant the glory of Hari alone which washes away the impurities of the Kaliyuga.


If one recounts the doings of common people, Sarasvati beats her brow and repents her coming. The wise liken the heart of a poet to the sea, his intellect to the shell containing pearls and Sarasvati to the rain that falls under Arcturus’ influence.


If there is goodly shower of inspiration (in the form of beautiful ideas), lovely pearls make their appearance in the form of poetic effusions.


Those pearls are dexterously pierced and strung together on the fair thread of Rama’s acts, and noble souls wear them on their innocent hearts, where they glow with the beauty of their perfect love.


Of those born in this dreadful Kaliyuga, who act like crows disguised as swans, who abandon the Vedic path and walk in evil ways, embodiments of falsehood and vessels of impurity.


-who are impostors claiming to be Rama’s devotees, though slave of gold and wrath and lust, chief in the world am I, unscrupulous, hypocritical and foremost among intriguers.


Were I to recount all my vices, the list would so grow that it would have no end. I have therefore recounted but a very few, enough for the wise to understand the whole.
