Thus grievously sorrowed the dispeller of sorrow (of his devotees); and tears streamed from his eyes which were like the petals of a lotus. Uma,(continues Lord Shiva) Raghunatha is one (without a second) and indivisible, and it was only in compassion to the faithful that he played a man’s part.

The monkey hosts were sore distressed on hearing Rama’s frantic wailing. Then arrived Hanuman like a heroic strain in the midst of a pathetic theme.

Immensely pleased, Rama embraced Hanuman; for the Lord is most grateful and supremely wise. The physician (Sushena) then quickly applied the remedy and Lakshmana gaily rose and sat up.

The Lord clasped his brother to this heart and all the bears and monkeys rejoiced. Then Hanuman carried the physician back home in the same manner as he had been brought away.

When Ravana heard what had happened, he beat his head again and again in utter despair. In sore perplexity he called on Kumbhakarna and with much trouble only managed to awaken him.

Kumbhakarna awoke looking like Death himself in visible form. He asked, ‘Tell me, brother, why do you look so withered up?’

The imperious Ravana told him the whole story and how he had carried off Sita. ‘Brother,’ he said, ‘the monkeys have killed all the demons and routed my stoutest warriors.
