Having thus made their supplication, the gods and the adepts stood where they were with folded hands. Then, thrilling all over with excess of devotion, Brahma broke out into this hymn of praise:

‘Glory to Hari (the reliever of suffering), abode of eternal bliss, foremost of the Raghus, with the bow and arrows! You, O Lord, are a lion to rend in pieces the elephant of earthly existence, the ocean of all perfections, the all-wise omnipresent master!

Though the beauty of your form is like that of a multitude of Loves, yet it is incomparable; adepts and great sages and poets hymn your perfections; supremely unblemished is your glory. You in your wrath did seize Ravana as Garuda might seize some monstrous serpent.

Delight of the faithful an dispeller of their grief and fear, you, Lord, are quintessence of wisdom and ever unmoved by passion. Noble are your incarnations and full of untold excellence, sum of all spiritual knowledge, reliever of earth’s burdens.

(In spite of all your descents into the world) you are ever unborn, all-pervading, one (without a second) and beginningless. I rapturously bow to you, O Rama, fountain of eternal compassion! O jewel of the house of Raghu, slayer of Dushana and eradicator of all blemishes, you made a king of Vibhishana, your humble servant!

Storehouse of virtue and wisdom, free from vanity, unborn, you I constantly adore, O Rama, omni-present, passionless! Terrible is the glory and might of your arms, which are deft in exterminating the hordes of the wicked.

O bounteous, selfless one who is compassionate to the lowly and their befriender, I worship you, in whom all beauty dwells, and Sita too! Deliverer from the rounds of birth and death, you are beyond both cause (Maya) and effect (the phenomenal universe) and eradicate the dreadful sins born of the mind.
