As the car took off, a tumultuous noise burst forth, all shouting, ‘Glory to Raghubira!’ In the car was a throne, lofty and magnificent, and on it the Lord Rama and Sita took their seat.


Accompanied by his spouse, Rama shone resplendent, like a dark cloud on a peak of Mount Meru with attendant lightning. Very swiftly sped the beauteous car on its way, to the joy of the gods, who showered down flowers on it.


A most delightful breeze breathed soft and cool and fragrant; the water of the ocean, lake and river became transparent, and omens of good fortune were met on every side; everyone felt cheerful at heart; the whole expanse of the sky and the four quarters were clear.


‘Sita,’ said Raghunatha, ‘look at the battlefield; here Lakshana slew Meghanada, the subduer of Indra; these huge demons that strew the field were slaughtered by Hanuman and Angad.


And here fell the two brothers, Kumbhakarna and Ravana, the torment of gods and sages.


Here I had bridge built and installed an image of Shiva, abode of bliss.’ So speaking, the all-merciful Rama and Sita both made obeisance to Shiva.


Every spot in the woods, where the Lord of grace had either encamped or rested, he pointed out to Sita and told her the names of them all.
