Consider, O sovereign Lord, and tell me, of what use is my home to me apart from you? Extend your protection to this humble servant, O Lord, for I am but a child without knowledge, understanding or strength.


I will do all the most mental housework and shall cross the ocean of birth and death by the mere sight of your lotus feet.’ Thus speaking, he fell at Rama’s feet, adding, ‘Save me, my lord, and command me not now, my Master, to go home!’


Hearing Angad’s humble entreaty, Raghunatha, the Lord of perfect compassion, raised him and clasped him to his bosom, has lotus eyes streaming with tears.


Investing Bali’s son (Angad) with the garland that hung on his own bosom and with his own robes and jewels, the Blessed Lord then bade him farewell with many words of consolation.


Conscious of the votary’s services, Bharata, Shatrughna and Lakshmana proceeded to escort him. Angad’s heart was so full of love that he would turn again and again for one more look at Rama.


He would repeatedly prostrate himself and hope that Rama might bid him stay. He became sad as he recalled the characteristic way Rama looked and talked and walked and smilingly greeted his friends.


But when he saw it was the Lord’s will, he set forth with many words of fervent prayer, cherishing his lotus feet in his heart. Having escorted all the monkeys with the utmost respect, Bharata and his brothers returned.
