Birds sang and beasts wandered fearlessly through the forest in distinct herds, making merry all the time. Cool, mild and fragrant blew the breezes, and bees made a pleasant humming even as they moved about laden with honey.

Creepers and trees dropped honey to those who asked for it; cows yielded milk to one’s heart’s content. The earth was ever rich in crops; even in the Tretayuga every feature of the Satyayuga was repeated.

Conscious of the fact that the Universal Spirit was no other than king of the world, the hills disclosed their mines of jewels of every description. Every river flowed with fair water, cool, transparent, refreshing and delicious to the taste.

The Lord performed myriads of horse-sacrifices and bestowed innumerable gifts on the Brahmans; he preserved the Vedic usage and was the champion of righteousness, himself transcending the three modes of nature (sattva, rajas and tamas), yet another Indra (the lord of Paradise) in opulence and grandeur.

A mine of beauty, virtuous and modest, Sita was ever submissive to her lord. She knew the majesty of the Lord of grace and adored his lotus feet with a devoted heart.
