Jai Maa Durga

All the Gods bowed low and prayed with folded hands, "Divine Durga! You are the primary cause of the creation of this Universe. You are the very source of all powers. Kindly protect us by killing wicked demon, Mahisha."

Then Shiva took out another trident out of his original Trident and gave it to Durga. Like-wise Vishnu gave his Sudershana Chakra, Varun his Conch, Fire her power, Air gave its bow and Quiver to the Goddess Durga. Similarly Indra, the Lord of Gods gave his powerful Vajra. Yama, his staff and the Sun God filled the pores of her body with the energy of his rays. Lord Yama, the God of death, offered his bright shield and sword to Durga. Vishva Karma gave his bright axe and armour which could not be pierced by any weapon. The Himalayas gave Durga the brown lion to ride on.

Along with all the armaments of warfare, precious ornaments were also offered to the omnipotent Durga. The milky ocean offered the garland of peerless pearls and diamonds along with two new divine robes, ear-rings, bracelets and the crescent moon for her forehead! Shesh Naag, the serpent-king, who supports our earth on its hood, offered Durga the brilliant garland of Naagmanies.

Now the omnipotent Durga bedecked with divine arms and ornaments, mounted on her, Lion laughed heartily and roared out, "I will slay Mahisha, the wicked demon."

Durga's violent roar echoed in the whole sky. Her brown lion responded with such a terrific and terrible roar which made all the worlds and the seven oceans tremble. The entire earth and the mountains were shaken.

The Gods were beside themselves with joy as they felt sure that Durga was going to kill their sworn enemy Mahisha.

The terrible roar of Durga sent Shivers down the spines of demons in the three worlds. All the demons came forward with their armies. Mahisha, too, came roaring at the head of his huge army.
