Jai Maa Durga

When Mahisha failed to face Durga in his real form, he once again changed himself into a huge and strong elephant. He thought that Durga could not be defeated as long as she was seated on her agile lion. So Mahisha as an elephant wanted to kill Durga's lion to deprive her of her vehicle.

So having converted himself into a mighty elephant, Mahisha caught hold of Durga's lion in his trunk. Then he began pulling at it with all his great strength. Durga's rage knew no bounds. She at once wielded her long and sharp sword and cut off the elephant's trunk in a trice. Her lion was relieved of the elephant's clutches.

When Mahisha's trunk as an elephant was chopped off, he felt bewildered and puzzled. After all he was none but Mahisha, the mighty buffalo.

When as an elephant Mahisha failed to Vanquish Durga, he once again assumed the form of a buffalo. He began to torment all the creatures whether animate or inanimate by his horrible appearance and deeds.

Intoxicated with his great strength and valour, he uprooted rocks and hills with his strong and sturdy horns and hurled them at Durga.

Durga by her sharp and swift shafts shattered those rocks and hills to pieces and scattered them in the wind all around.

Mahisha kept on roaring loudly fuming at his mouth in a fit of violent rage.
