Jai Maa Durga |

Durga warned Mahisha, "O wicked and stupid demon! As long as I am drinking this nectar, keep on roaring. The Gods too will go into merry-making soon after I kill you in a moment."
Having uttered these words of warning, Durga leaped off and brought her one foot down on Mahisha. Then she pierced his neck with her trident. But Mahisha managed to pull half of his body out of the mouth of the buffalo. That very moment Durga beheaded him with her sharp sword. Mahisha breathed his last at the holy feet of Durga. The Gods were wild with joy.
The strife between the Gods and the demons has been going on since the beginning of this creation. Sometimes we find Lord Rama fighting against Ravana while at others the Pandavas are arrayed against the demoniac forces of the Kaurvas. So the conflict between good and evil goes on without any stop.
History bears witness that truth alone triumphs in the long run and not falsehood. The divine forces must secure victory over the demoniac force sooner or later.
Once it so happened that Shumbha and Nishumbha, the twin demon brothers, intoxicated with their power and prowess attacked the Gods in the Heaven. Lord Indra along with other Gods faced the army of demons in a fearful battle which resulted in a crushing defeat for the Gods who had to flee from Heaven to save themselves. Having been defeated, the Gods knocked from post to pillar on the earth.
Shumbha and Nishumbha had their sway over the sun, the moon, Kubera, yama and Varuna. They exercised their authority over the air and fire as well.
The Gods invoked Durga, the slayer of demons, in such a great adversity.
