Jai Maa Durga |

Now Durga was mounted on her lion. The huge demon army and Durga started hurling powerful missiles at each other.
Meanwhile Durga's lion displayed remarkable feats of valour. Having given out a deafening roar, it waved its manes violently and pounced upon the army of demons. Many were devoured and killed by him. He tore into the intestines of the enemy soldiers with his sharp claws.
When Shumbha heard that Dhumralochana was burnt to ashes by Durga and that her lion had killed all his soldiers, his rage knew no bounds.
He sent a huge army under the command of Chanda and Munda to combat Durga. Seeing the huge army of the demons, Durga's eyebrows were strained with great anger.
The demon army saw Durga seated on her mighty and horrible lion. But they advanced towards her with their bows, arrows and swords in hands fearlessly to capture her.
Boundless wrath had darkened her face. Presently from her forehead emanated a very terrifying Goddess called the Kali who had a curved sword in her right hand and a rope in the other hand. She was clad in a tiger-skin saree and bedecked with a garland of human heads round her neck. Her body was a mere skeleton of bones without any flesh. So her appearance was extremely horrifying.
Kali sent waves of fear down the spine because of her long tongue leaping out of her huge wide-open mouth. It appeared as if she was going to devour the whole universe! Her violent roar resounded in all directions. Her eyes were red like embers.
The Kalika pounced upon the demons and started devouring them with great relish. She would catch hold of many elephants with only one of her hands and gulped them down into her huge mouth!
She was seen everywhere on the battlefield. Wherever she went, there was panic among the demons. Her very horrible appearance would make the weak-hearted demons swoon.
