Shree Ganesh

Ganesh knew what Vedvyasa was doing and he could not complete with him. Then both of them gave up the race and became normal and stopped pulling each other's leg. Thus "Mahabharat" was completed smoothly and to the satisfaction of Vedavyasa.

The name of Ganesh's brother was Karthikeya. When they had grown up, they said to their parents, "We have crossed the age of celibacy and should enter wedlock. For this we seek you permission to get married."

Shiva and Parvati were glad to hear this news. But then a question arose in their mind, "Who should be married first?" They did not like to annoy either. Therefore, they said, "We welcome your idea. You both should go around the world and he who returns first will get married first."

Karthikeya took off immediately, but Ganesh did not like the idea of undertaking such an arduous and long journey. He made his parents sit at a place and circumnavigated seven times around them. Then said, "Look! I have gone around the world not once but seven times."

Shiva said, "How it can be?"

Ganesh said, "It is said in the Vedas that circumnavigation of parents is as sacred as going around the world."

Shiva and Parvati had no answer. Ganesh was married. When Karthikeya returned and learnt of Ganesh's trick, he was shocked and agitated. He vowed not to marry at all.

Due to this, he is called "Kumar" (one who remains unmarried).
