Om Namah Shivaya |
After having attained these boons, Tarak became the king of demons. He attacked the Gods and threw them out of the heaven. He grabbed and seized from the Gods whatever they had.
When the Gods were helpless and became desperate, they approached Brahma for the redressal of their grievances.
The Gods stood before Brahma and submitted very politely, "O Lord of the Universe! We are undergoing unbearable agony. We, the pious and God-fearing people have to live under the rule of Tarak demon. We are compelled to obey his orders which are always against religion and God. We pray to you to save us from his atrocities."
Brahma was unable to do anything because Tarak had the boon of invincibility from Brahma himself. So, he said, "In this situation, I am helpless. I am bound by the boon I have granted Tarak. Only Shiva's son can kill him. If Shiva agrees to get married and a son is born to him, only then you can be liberated from the control of Tarak. For this, you must appease Shiva. If Shiva accedes to your request, then you are saved otherwise you are doomed." The Gods said, "All right! We shall pray to him to protect us from the demon."
At the time, Shiva was in deep meditation and that was a problem. Brahma had suggested to them in these words, "One thing you should do. Try to make Shiva agree to marry Parvati, the daughter of Himalaya. She is of marriageable age. It is a chance that Shiva is in meditation just near her father's place."
Manipulate in such a way that sentiment of love is aroused in the hearts of the two and Shiva agrees to marry Parvati. No other alternative comes to my mind.
Brahma had given the advice to the Gods which he could. But it was very difficult to act upon this advice. Shiva had not been able to overcome the shock of Sati's death. None could dare disturb him in his meditation. Indra, the king of Gods thought deeply over the problem. Then he said to Madan, the God of Love, "All the Gods are made to put up with the insults and tortures hurled upon them by Tarak. The only way left with us is to get rid of him. You may let the seed of love be sprouted in the breast of Shiva who is meditating in the Himalays. Parvati too should be simultaneously made to fall in love with Shiva. If you succeed in bringing Shiva and Parvati closer and getting them married, you can save the Gods from Tarak. This marriage will result in the birth of a son who will, in turn, kill Tarak."
