Dawn hath come shining like a youthful lady of light, stirring to life every living being. Now it is time to kindle Agni, for she, the resplendent Dawn hath scattered the shadows. The fair lady, beautiful to look on, with her face turned towards the world, hath risen, enrobed in bright raiments. Decked with gold and bright rays, she sends the world on its daily course. Bringing the Eye of the Gods, the lady of light, comes riding her beautiful white courser. Distinguished by her radiance, Dawn shines apparent, bestowing marvellous wealth on all the world. O opulent lady, come unto us with your bounty, chase away the foe-men, grant us safe and rich pastures. Scatter those who hate us. O liberal one, pour boons on your singer! Send thy excellent beams to guide and sustain us, providing us prolonged days. O Dawn, O Goddess, grant us food and riches in cattle, kine, chariots and horses! O high-born, Daughter of Heaven prayed by many an illustrious seers, grant us vast and glorious wealth. Preserve us ever-more with your blessings!
Behold once again the beams of Dawn approaching. Her splendours diffuse their lustre on high in the sky. O Usha, refulgent, riding thy sublime, chariot, grant us wealth that makes us happy. The well kindled fire rings aloud thy praise, the chanters sing thy lauds. Goddess Dawn approaches in her radiance, sweeping away all darkness and danger. There in the east the Morning has appeared, sending forth light, increasing the lustre, ad bringing on the Sun, sacrifice and Agni, while detested darkness flees in the west. Affluent Daughter of the Sky has appeared once more, and all mortals look on her as she advances. Her car, which she has mounted, moves self-harnessed and drawn onward by its team of fine yoked steeds. Urged with loving minds, we and our nobles greet thee this day. Show yourselves favourable, O Dawns, as you arise and preserve us evermore with your blessings!
Rousing the lands where dwell the five peoples, Dawn has revealed the pathways of the people. The fine clouds of dawn convey her radiance. The Sun with his light has disclosed earth and heaven. The Dawns approach like tribes arrayed for battle, their bright beams paint the distant limits of the sky as the Sun extends his arms. They give forth their light imprisoning darkness. The Goddess Dawn has arisen, endowed with great riches, getting homage that assures our weal. This Daughter of Heaven, the noblest of the noble, gives varied treasures to her worshippers. Bestow on us, Goddess Dawn, that ample bounty which thou grant to those who sing thy laud. Aloud, they acclaim you, like mighty bulls bellowing as you unbar the doors of the firm set mountains. May your appearance grant us the charm of pleasant voices and thoughts for our upliftment as thou arises. Preserve us evermore, with thy blessings!
Behold, the effulgent Daughter of Heaven comes, dispelling the gloom of night that we may see. The friendly lady spreads the light. The rising Sun, the refulgent Star of heaven, pours forth his rays together with the Dawn. O Dawn, O Sun, at your arising may we attain our portion in your light. O Dawn, Daughter of the high Sky, promptly we rise and come to greet you. You most bounteous one, granter of all that we seek; to thy worshippers you give both blessings and wealth. O resplendent one, you light up the earth that we may see it, and also the high vault of heaven. We long to be your own, sharing in your boons. Accept our love like a Mother from her children. Bring us your most wonderous bounty, that shall be famed far and wide. Give us to enjoy the nourishment you possess, O Daughter of Heaven. Grant to our princes riches and immortal fame, and to us herds of kine in contests. May you, O shining Dawn, who urges the wealthy, Lady of fair charms, drive our foes away!
