Accomodation in Hampi (Vijaynagar)
There are only basic places to stay at in Hampi. To get a decent place you have to stay in Hospet. Many backpackers stay in Hampi for long periods, many of them going or coming from Goa. It has a good peaceful atmosphere. The decent places here are usually full, so it is usually best to stay in Hospet about 13 km away, unless you are going to be staying for more than a few days.
The Shanthi Guest House at Hampi Bazaar has very basic rooms. Also basic is the Rahul Guest House, which is on the left as you enter Hampi Bazaar from Hospet.
Besides these places, many people will offer you rooms in their homes. These are usually very basic and may be just a small room with a mattress on the floor and bathroom shared with the owner of the house. The Virupaksha Temple rents out a few unfurnished rooms and dormitory space.
The Inspection Bungalow (Power House Guest House) is at the southern part of the ruins at Kamalapuram, about 3 km from Hampi Bazaar.
Mayura Vijayanagara Hotel, at Tungabhadra Dam, 17 km from Hampi is a good place, but is very inconveniently located.
