Vijayawada is on the banks of the Krishna River, about 70km from the sea. One of the main reasons for going to Vijayawada is to visit the Pana Narasimha temple in Mangalagiri. There are also several other ancient temples in the area and an ancient Hindu cave temple. If you are interested in visiting the famous Buddhist site, Amaravati, this is a good starting point.
