Where To Stay
Around Egmore Station and on Poonamallee High Rd, between Central and Egmore Stations, there is a good selection of mid-range and a few budget places. The cheapest hotels are in the George Town area, between North Beach Rd, NSC Bose Rd, and Mint Rd. The high- range hotels are mostly on Mount Rd (Anna Salai) and the roads that run off it. Sometimes it can be difficult to find a room in Madras, especially in December and January.

The YWCA Guest House, 1086 Poonamallee High Rd, has clean good-sized rooms and with A/C. It takes both men and women, and is a good value, so it should be booked early. The Dasaprakash Hotel, 100 poonanallee High Rd by Central Railway, is a reccommended place with rooms and with A/C. It has a quiet roof garden and Bhagavad-gitas in the rooms. It also has a good vegetarian restaurant that packs lunches for you.
The Hotel Ranjith, 9 Nungambakkam High Rd, is a good place by the consulates and airline offices. It has very clean rooms and with A/C. The Hotel Palm Grove, 5 Kodambakkam High Rd, is a good place with clean rooms and with A/C.
The popular Tourist Home, 21 Gandhi Irwin Rd, opposite the railway station, is a recommended place with good rooms with attached bath rooms and with A/C. Udipi Home is a well-managed place clean rooms and with A/C.
The New Woodlands Hotel, 72/75 Dr Radhakrishnan Rd, Mylapore, is a recommended place with swimming pool. Rooms with A/C. It has a good vegetarian restaurant.
Where To Stay - High
The Hotel New Victoria, 3 Kennet's Lane, close to Egmore station, has rooms. It is clean and quiet. The Madras International Hotel, 693 Anna Salai Rd, is a good place with comfortable rooms.
The Hotel President, 16 Dr Radhakrishanan Rd, Mylapor, is a large place with good sized rooms. Nearby the modern Hotel Savera, 69 Dr. Radhakrishnan Rd, has comfortable rooms.
Where To Stay - Luxury
The Hotel Taj Coromandel, 17 Nungambakkam High Rd, has excellent rooms. It has a convenient location and a good pool. Connemara, Binny Rd by Mount Rd, is a first-class luxury hotel with comfortable rooms. It has a swimming pool and a good book shop. It is heavily booked from December to March.
The Welcomegroup Chola Sheraton, 10 Cathedral Rd, has rooms. The Park Sheraton Hotel & Tower, 132 TTK Rd, is a very luxurious place with rooms. The Hoilday Inn Crowne Plaza, 1 GST Road, has rooms.
Away from the downtown is the five-star Trident Oberoi, 1/24 GST Rd, which has pleasant gardens and a pool. It is convenient for the airport, which is 4 km away. Rooms are available. It has convenient 12-hour rate.
