Air
The nearest airport is in Tiruchirappalli, 167 km southwest.

Train
Chidambaram is on the main line of the Southern Railway, from Madras Egmore to Rameswaram. There are trains to Madras, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and Trichy. There are two direct trains daily to Tirupati and one train to Rameswaram. From the temple to the train station is a twenty-minute walk. There are railway retiring rooms and a post office on platform one.


Bus
There are buses to Thanjavur, Pondicherry, Madras, Mamallapuram, Tiruchirappalli, Kumbakonam, and Madurai. The bus station is about three blocks east of the temple, in the centre of town.
