Thiruvannamalai is over 1000 km south of Kanchipuram and 185 km southwest of Madras. It takes about two or three hours to get here by train from Vellore, which is due north. The train station is on the line between Madurai and Tirupati, and there is a daily train in each direction. The Madurai-Tirupati Exp. #6800 departs daily to Tirupati. The Tirupati-Madurai Exp. #6799 goes to Madurai via Chidambaram, Thanjavur, and Trichy. Most people arrive by bus at the bus stand, about 2 km north of the temple.
