Bhagavan also discloses the real significance
of Saranagathi an expression co-related to Sarm which is understood as
absolute surrender to God. He says that it is only when we feel that the
Divine is present in all human beings, and in other living things and
that this Divinity is omnipresent can we understand the real meaning of
Saranagathi which is surrender in thought, word and deed to God, so as
to become one with Him. This is self realisation.
Yoga is not a monopoly of the Hindus. It
is said that the Essenes community of the Jews practiced and lived a life
of Yoga and Jesus Christ was born in this community. In the Old Testament
of the Bible the worship of God appears to have been done by sacrifice
similar to Yaga practice by the vedic Aryans. Jesus Christ reformed this
mode of worship into one of prayer by Ajapa (without utterance). He taught
that the kingdom of god is within and that god being a spirit should be
worshipped in spirit. He instructed his disciples that they should have
an inner approach when they pray. He said "when thou prayest enter into
thy closet and when hast shut thy door pray to thy father which is in
secret."
The door meant here is the mental door and not the closet door. This is
a yogic approach. "Commune with your own heart upon your bed and be still"
is what the Psalmist in the Bible says. The moslim sufis also practiced
yoga under the name of saluk. They called pranayam, Habs-e-Dam. In his
Mathnavi Moulana Rumi says "close your eyes, your lips and your ears and
if you fail to discover the secrets of god, laugh at me." |
