Visalaksham
or broad eyes do not indicate their size which are disproportionate to
the size of the head of Ganesha. The description is only with reference
to the breadth of his vision or its all seeing power. In some figures
he is seen with a third eye in his fore head. Obviously this eye is the
eye of spiritual insight or the eye of Brahma. Brahma should be understood
as the "Brow-man" the divine principle located inside the brow region
of every being.
The above mentioned prayer reveals that Ganesha
is a yoga murthy. There is another prayer or hymn addressed to him which
throws more light on his spiritual personality. The hymn in the nature
of an invocation prayer is as follows:
"Suklambaradharam Vishnam
Sasivarnam Chathurbujam
Prasannavadhanam Dhayeth
Sarva vignopa santhaye."
The superficial meaning of the hymn is as follows: He who is clothed in
white, bright as a moon and having four hands with a pleasant face, may
he protect us against all setbacks.
The expression "Suklambaradharam Vishnam'
is very significant. Suklambaram is not white cloth. The real meaning
has to be ascertained. There is also no mention of Ganesha's tusk, trunk,
belly and eyes. The superficial meaning as it is ordinarily understood
by the common people would make him out a cheap bazaar doll. But this
hymn is being uttered by every pious Hindu in fervent devotion before
he does anything. Even spiritual heads invoke this hymn believing in the
potency of its invocation impregnated with the mystical concepts used
therein.
