The legendary butchering of his mothers head by Parashuram and eventual penance followed by taking a bath in the so called Bhrama Kund, has
added religious significance to this naturally beautiful Parashuram Kund.
The state government as an effort to promote its tourism, every year set up a temporary market place enabling transaction of various articles.
The government earns revenue from issuing Inner line permit to the pilgrims and temporary license to the businessmen at the nominal charge, who set up shops on the occasion of Mela, and that were spent for development of the Kund, informed an official.
A mela market at Tezu about 20 km downstream from the Kund-every year for the period of three weeks that changes the otherwise thinly populated district into scene of hustle and bustle.

The district craft center displays traditional articles on the mela spot for sale, thereby displaying the rich traditional heritage of the native people.
Thus, in the first month of every year, Parashuram Kund turned into a mini India.
The legendary story of Parashuram Kund also finds its mention in many puranic texts in different ways. However, it is believed that Parashuram was born to saint Jamadagni and Rebuka in Treta.
One day, Renuka, after her bath in Ganga was on her way back to the Ashram when she saw the Gandhrava King Chitraratha playing with the celestial nymphs. She felt drawn to the king chitraratha and lost the track of time.
When she returned with wet cloths, frightened and absent minded, it was already time for the mid-day worship in the Ashram. Jamadagni, who was worried over the delay of her returning from her bath, could perceive why she was
late.
Jamadgani then became so much furious for this unusual conduct of Renuka that he lost his self-controlled. He asked his fathers cruel mandate as a dutiful son. He came forward and killed his mother, as he was fully aware of his fathers power of Tapasya. He even killed his brothers because they did not carry out their fathers command.
