Main Deities And Their Consorts
Main Deities And Their Consorts Usually beside the shrine (altar) of the main temple deity there is a shrine for the deity's consort. In a Krishna temple this could be Radnarani or Rukmini, in a Vishnu temple, Laksmi, and in a Siva temple, Parvati. Also in a Krishna temple Radha could be standing right next to Krishna; and on the main altar of a Vishnu temple Laksmi could be at the feet of Lord Vishnu.
Sometimes, as in Tirupati, the consort of the main deity could be in another temple some distance away. The consort of Sri Venkateswara, Sri Padmavathi, is in the town of Tiruchanur, 23 km from the main temple in Tirumala
Also the temple dedicated to Rukimini, the wife of Sri Krishna, is located just outside the town of Dwarka, a few km away from the temple dedicated to Krishna in Dwarka.
