Nine Embodiments of the Deity
Shail-Putri Shail means mountains; Parvati, the daughter of king of mountains - Himalaya, is known as 'Shail Putri', Shail also means rock which denotes firmness and steadfastness. Shail-Putri-Gouri represents the determination of Sadhak, whose sole persuit to become Shiva's consort, whose sole persuit to become Shiva's consort, bore fruit. The firmness and steadfastness should not be associated with stuborness or ill conceived thoughts. This type of determination is the key for success in life.
Brahma-Charini The goddess was created by Lord Brahma to control the universe. Therefore the goddess is loved by Brahma. She is store-house of knowledge and wisdom. Her worship and Japa is performed through Brahma-Mantra. Rudraksha is her most through Brahma-Mantra. Rudraksha is her most adorned ornament. In other words: -
The goddess whose sole purpose is the attainment of supreme realization.
Chandra Ghanta Chandra + Ghanta, meaning supreme bliss and knowledge, showering peace & serenity, like cool breeze in a moonlit night. True wisdom is pure consciousness transcending humility and peace like the rays of moon. Beautiful & heart rendering speech; control over anger; safety from all dangers are the boons bestowed by the great mother Chandra-Ghanta to her devotees. The mother is worshipped in this form in Kanchipuram (Karnatka).
Kushmanda Kushmanda is the fourth form. 'Kumbh Bhand' means to see cosmic vivacity in Pindi shape or knowledge of cosmic intricacies in human race. The Puranic commentaries of ancient sages & several upanishdic concepts are based on Kushmanda. It is clearly mentioned in 'Yoga-Vas-ishtha' that the cosmic reality is no different than human body (Pind). By worshipping Durga in this form, the devotee is able to realize the cosmic truth in his ownself. The abode of devi is said to be in Bhimaparvat.
