There are two areas to stay-the lower part and McLeod Ganj. The accommodations in the lower part are not so good, and the only reason to stay there is that you have an early morning bus or you arrive late. The busy season is from Oct to March, especially Feb/March during the Tibetan New Year.

Where To Stay - Dharamsala
Most people stay in the lower part of Dharamsala only long enough to get a bus to McLeod Ganj. The Rising Moon Hotel is a real basic place with rooms, some with bath.

The B Mehra Hotel and the Tibet United Association Hotel is about the same. The Basera Lodge, Kotwali Bazar, is the best of the budget places with clean rooms with bath The Hotel Shimla is a good place.

HPTDC Dhauladhar Hotel, near the bus stand, has good sized double rooms with hot water and a good view from the balconies.

Where To Stay - McLeod Ganj
Most visitors stay here. It is very popular and many hotels are often full, especially in March when His Holiness the Dalai Lama gives classes.

The Tibetan Ashoka Guest House is a budget hotel that has rooms with common bath and rooms with separate bath. The Om Hotel, near the bus stand, is a popular quiet place that has rooms with common bath, but it is often full. It is not really such a good place.

The Paljor Gakyil Guest House is a recommended place that has clean rooms with bath. Rooms with hot water, a carpet and a great view are also available. A popular cheap place is the Green Hotel which has rooms with common bath and rooms with bath.

The Lhasa Guest House has good rooms with common bath and with bath. The bus stand next door can make it noisy at times. The Hotel Tibet is a good place with comfortable rooms with bath and TV.

The Kalsang Guest House has rooms with common bath. Rooms with bath and hot water are also available. There is a good view from the roof. The Hotel Natraj has nice rooms. The front rooms and the roof have a good view.

The Drepung Loseling Guest House has good rooms with bath, rooms with hot water, and room with a good view. This is a good popular place. Also good is the Ladies Venture Guest House which has very clean rooms. Rooms with bathrooms shared between two and room with a private bath. It is a well-managed place.

The well-managed HPTDC Hotel Bhagsu has comfortable rooms. Better than this place is the Chonor House, at the south end of McLeod Ganj. It has double rooms with bath and singles with bath shared between two.
